Elderly Care

Just over 8 percent of the world’s population is over 65 years old — 617 million people. By 2050, the elderly population is projected to rise to 17 percent of the global population.¹ However, the average life expectancy is also expected to rise by nearly eight years, to 76.2 years rather than 68.6 in 2015.² In Japan, over a quarter of the population is over the age of 65,³ and in Italy 22.4 percent of the population is over the age of 65.⁴ Greece also has the third highest aging population, with 21.4 percent of the population over 65.⁵ The United Nations created the United Nations Principles for Older Persons in 1991, an act comprised of 18 protections for the elderly around the world.⁶
