Big Brothers - Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago

Chicago, Illinois

Our Mission

As Metro Chicago's largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 7 through 18, in communities all across Lake, Cook, and DuPage Counties in Illinois and Lake County, NW Indiana - urban and rural… Big and Little. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people. Our mentors work with children in the community, in workplaces, in their schools, on military bases, and many places in between.

Who We Are

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago (BBBSMC) is an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the oldest, most respected mentoring organization in United States. We are a mission driven, performance based organization that is professionally managed and provides high quality 1:1 mentoring services to 1,700 of Metro Chicago's most at-risk children and their families across four counties. We work to ensure that youth facing adversity are able to achieve lifelong success, communities are safer, and businesses benefit from a better prepared workforce. BBBSMC has provided high quality, measurable, outcome-based services to high needs children and families across the entire metropolitan Chicago area for nearly 50 years through collaboration with our donors, community partners and volunteers. For over a century, Big Brothers Big Sisters nationally has been helping change kids' perspectives and giving them the opportunity to reach their full potential. BBBSMC helps children realize their potential and build their futures. We nurture children, strengthen communities and believe that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. We hold ourselves accountable for children in our programs to achieve measurable outcomes such as educational success, avoidance of risky behaviors, higher aspirations, greater confidence and better relationships.
