CASTAWAY ANIMALS RESCUE EFFORT

Verona, Missouri

Our Mission

Castaway Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), no-kill animal shelter and sanctuary that specializes in rescuing sick, injured, and abused animals in the Ozarks. C.A.R.E. is a nonprofit, state licensed facility. All animals are spayed or neutered prior to adoption.

Who We Are

We are a non-profit organization founded in 1992 by Director Melissa Sartin dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals. We have an inspected and licensed facility that is in good standing with the state. The C.A.R.E. shelter houses hundreds of homeless animals. We have our Adoption Center in Springfield, open seven days a week, which house our current adoptable pets. Our location in Ozark is home ot our clinic, where we rhabilitate recently rescued animals, and get them as healthy and happy as possible before being up for adoption. Our sanctuary near Aurora is reserved for animals who may need some extra time to fully recover and become ready for adoption. Our unadoptable animals can also be found at our sanctuary, each spending their days with cageless freedom, their nights in warm beds, and receiving lots of love and individual attention. C.A.R.E. relies solely on the kindness and donations of the public to care for our animals. We are not city or state funded and all donations are tax deductible. C.A.R.E. is and always has been, a "No-Kill" animal shelter. We do not take our animals to any facility for disposal. Animals that are not adopted are allowed to live out their lives in our sanctuaries. We work hard to create and maintain a healthy and happy environment for all the animals in our care and welcome visitors and volunteers. We pride ourselves on working with other shelters and humane societies, not against them. We have good working relationships with many organizations that are appreciative of our assistance in taking many of their adoptable animals that otherwise would be destroyed. All of our pets are spayed or neutered before being put up for adoption. We support early-age spay/neuter programs for shelters. Spaying/neutering prior to adoption is the only way to guarantee that none of our shelter animals will contribute to the pet overpopulation problem. We also employ an application process that helps us better match pets and people. Prospective adopters are carefully screened to ensure that we find the best fit possible for the animal, based on the needs and personality of each individual dog or cat. C.A.R.E. does not accept in animals from the public. We rescue animals from kill shelters that would otherwise be destroyed. Please do not ask us to take in an animal.
