Stamford, Connecticut

Our Mission

The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut provides mental health services to children struggling with psychological, behavioral, developmental, social, or family problems, age birth to 18, in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, and New Canaan, Connecticut. Our purpose is to reduce emotional suffering and dysfunctional behavior, strengthen families, and help every child achieve their optimal potential. Children in our programs cope with a variety of factors that impact their health and happiness, including bullying, family difficulties, school challenges, neglect, or even physical and sexual abuse. We have a range of programs to meet the unique needs and circumstances of every child and family. From ongoing therapy to emergency crisis response, we ensure the safety of our youngest community members, teaching them to take charge and self-manage their challenges so that they can enjoy a strong, healthy childhood. To ensure that our services reach every corner of the community, we have five office locations including on-site at a charter school. Money is never a barrier to a child who needs our help, as no family is turned away. We provide financial assistance to families who cannot afford the cost of therapy, ensuring that children at greatest risk receive the help they need.

Who We Are

The Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut was founded in 1954 with a drive to provide previously unavailable mental health services to children from the greater Stamford, Connecticut community. Once a staff of just six, we have expanded to an agency of 60, comprised of a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, and masters level mental health professionals. Their special training and experience in mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of children, adolescents, and families ensures that our clients receive individualized, culturally sensitive care tailored to their specific needs. The reach and diversity of our programs has grown over the years, becoming more accessible with multiple community sites and more responsive with 7-day a week emergency mobile capacity and off-site services that bring our expertise into families' homes, schools, and other agencies. We have developed and facilitate several key community partnerships and interagency teams to foster collaboration between public and private agencies, promoting effective and comprehensive services for families with complex needs.
