Our Mission

Chimps Inc. is a nonprofit, 501(C)3 wildlife sanctuary dedicated to furthering chimpanzee conservation through education and outreach. It was founded in 1995 in response to the multitude of captive chimpanzees desperately in need of homes. Our sanctuary, located in rural Bend, Oregon, is situated in a quiet, peaceful setting not far from the beautiful Three Sisters Mountains. Bend is typical of the high desert with the sun shining nearly every day.

Who We Are

Chimpanzees require unique care, including a special diet, specie-specific companionship, and appropriate housing. That is why we work hard to ensure that they are provided with days that are filled with choices, peace, dignity, companionship and care - worlds apart from the lonely, neglected lives many of them once knew. We work in communities, classrooms and neighborhoods across the country to create a network of people, young and old, who are committed to taking action for the benefit of the animals and the environment.
