Finding Freedom through Friendship, Inc.

We are a hands-on, relationship based, all-volunteer nonprofit working in the northern mountains of Guatemala. We work to bring Mayan widows and their children, who are some of the most marginalized citizens in rural Guatemala, to a level of sustainability through the donation of critical needs, and micro business grants. Networking with our Guatemalan volunteers allows us to increase our effectiveness: to date 25 widows have been gifted land and houses which are legally deeded to them, thus securing the future of their children. Housing security and education for their children prevents the need for the widows in our program to contract their children out for labor into the fields, or for their daughter to marry in their early teens in order to have shelter. Our board members bring a knowledge and passion for our work to our organization's participants; we develop relationships with each family in our program until they are self-sufficient enough to rotate out of the need for FFF services.
