FRIENDS OF THE THIRD WORLD, INC.

We started in 1970 when students and teachers organized fundraising walkathons to support self help projects whether across our street or across the world's oceans. In 1973 we began the Third World Shoppe, a volunteer run business supporting handcraft refugees producers in areas of violent conflict. In 1982 we became the first Fair Trade marketers of coffee in the United States by supporting Nicaraguan coffee cooperatives at the time of the "contra war" in Central America. We also collect medical and material aid to assist victims of violence in the Middle East; assist a youth program in Colombia and work for a sustainable economy thru partnerships here in U.S.A. & in 40 countries. We assist volunteer-run programs to market fairly traded projects, fundraise for projects and provide cultural education.
