GIRLS SHELTER OF FORT SMITH ARK INC

The Girls Shelter opened its doors in 1970. Since that time we have provided care for almost 700 young women. We are licensed by Arkansas Child Welfare Agency and subcontracted through Comprehensive Juvenile Services to provide their residential treatment for females. We are a United Way Community Partner since 1982. We serve a six county area in Western Arkansas. Many of our population are victims of sexual and or physical abuse. Several have at least one parent in prison or have severe drug and alcohol issues. We try to instill as much good into these girls as we possible can. In addition to housing and food we provide transportation , individual and group counseling, teach independent living skills, teach behavior modification and proper positive social behavior. Our girls attend public school but are closely supervised by our staff. We also provide a tutor 8 hours a week. We have a reward system in place for good behavior and good grades. Our goal is to work them back to family or extended family.
