GLOBAL COMMUNITY WORKS

Our vision was first stirred when we visited orphanages in Africa. There we saw that young people need to connect to opportunities that bring empowerment and self-reliance. We determined that we could make a difference if we became friends with struggling communities and found ways to leverage available resources on their behalf. Our current location is in Guatemala where we are seeking to leverage the infinite opportunities in the coffee industry on behalf of the people who work the hardest in the supply chain--the producing families. Currently we are focusing on building a great coffee experience in Antigua, Guatemala through our for-profit company, GuateJava Roastery and Coffeehouse. We are representing our friends' coffees from the various coffee producing areas of Guatemala. We fresh-roast only coffees where we know the growers and if at all possible, have been on their farm and in their communities. We have done several community development projects including a chicken project for an orphanage, cake-baking classes for ladies in the community, coffee farm inputs, clean water projects, nutritional training and workshops, animal projects and dental clinics. We seek to find what the needs are in the community and then connect them to the resource or organization that might meet the need most effectively. Our long-term goal is to build strong for-profit enterprises that will help fund the development projects back in the very same communities where we are bringing economic impact by doing business with them.
