Our Mission

For more than 70 years, Heifer International has provided livestock and environmentally sound agricultural training to improve the lives of those who struggle daily for reliable sources of food and income. Heifer is currently working in more than 30 countries, including the United States, to help families and communities become more self-reliant.

Who We Are

Since 1944, Heifer International has assisted more than 22.6 million families by providing training in eco-friendly agriculture and how to properly care for their livestock and living assets, to improve not only their lives, but their communities as well. In turn, Heifer families agree to â€œPass on the GiftÂ®â€ by presenting the first female offspring of their gifted livestockâ€“and the training in its careâ€“to another family in the community. This not only multiplies the impact of the original gift, it allows a once impoverished family to become donors and full participants in their community's sustainable development.
