Our Mission

To operate the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Animal Shelter with thoughtful compassion, promote lifetime placement for unwanted and abandoned pets, help to reduce the overpopulation of cats and dogs, educate the local community on responsible pet ownership, seek justice for animal cruelty offenders and promote the proper care and humane treatment of all animals.

Who We Are

Lincoln County, TN is a rural financially challenged county with a population of about 35,000. Since 1984, the Humane Society of Lincoln County (HSLC) has operated the only certified Animal Shelter in the county. Once considered a "high kill" shelter, the HSLC has made a concentrated effort over the past three years to transition to operating a "no kill" shelter - a true haven for unwanted or stray cats and dogs. We are nearly there. We no longer euthanize any healthy, adoptable dogs or cats. Our awesome Animal Control Attendants (ACAs) follow strict protocols to ensure all our Shelter animals are healthy and happy. Incidence of communicable disease among our animals is almost non-existent. Our health and behavior enrichment protocols have become a paradigm for shelter and rescue organizations in nearby counties looking to improve their own facilities. All this comes at a price. Veterinary and general operating expenses are taking a toll. The HSLC hosts 7-8 fundraisers a year, but in a county where the poverty rate exceeds 15%, finding revenue is a tough.
