By many metrics, the economy of the San Francisco Bay Area is robust and innovative. Unfortunately, the success of the region overall has not been shared equally. Over the last 20 years, the Bay Area has lost many traditionally middle-wage industries, causing significant and persistent inequality. As the nation's greatest drivers of new job creation, we know that small businesses are capable of creating quality employment opportunities. Unfortunately, a disproportionate amount of attention is given to launching new start-ups, which fail too frequently to provide sustainable economic benefits to their communities. We know that it is the growth that takes place after the start-up buzz has died down - the scale - that matters most to the communities that depend on the jobs these businesses create. Keeping this in mind, ICA pairs entrepreneurship education, pro-bono advisory services, and access to growth capital to incentivize small business owners to create Good Jobs. We have seen the success of our model in the track records of the businesses we support. Since our founding in 1996, ICA has supported hundreds of local businesses, and created more than 12,000 Bay Area jobs. We are building a comprehensive ecosystem of entrepreneur support that accelerates Good Job creation and generates the conditions for widely shared economic prosperity.
