Kimball Camp Hillsdale County YMCA
Reading, Michigan
Our Mission
We are a small independent YMCA camp located in Southern Michigan. We began in 1938 and serve approximately 6000 children and adults per year with a variety of programs.
Who We Are
While camping in our area began in 1913 under the title of Hillsdale County YMCA, Kimball Camp YMCA was started in 1938 with a donation of property by O.C. Kimball. The 25 acre parcel was then developed to house cabins, tents, trees, and a kitchen/dining hall over the span of 12 years. By 1950, the facilities were taking shape and camp was booming. The camp flourished until 1965 when a tornado on April 11th, Palm Sunday, destroyed all but one building on the grounds. The camp was rebuilt in the summer of 1967 and campers were making memories again. An additional 38 acre parcel of land was given to Kimball Camp YMCA to manage as part of a Nature Preserve. Several additions were made over the years including low and high ropes courses, a 40ft. climbing wall, a zip line, a giant swing, new docks, water trampolines, a giant inflatable iceberg, 12 rustic shelters, an archery range, a pole barn, 2 sand volleyball courts, expanded kitchen, storage, and office facilities. We run a variety of programs, summer camps, winter camps, outdoor education, teambuilding, retreats, weddings, and reunions.
