Our Mission

The purpose of Koinonia House® National Ministries is to create an environment at the individual, church and civic levels that recognizes the urgent and important need for society at large to embrace the post-prison population, acknowledges the post-prison population as people created in the image of God and embraces the post-prison population in order to break for good the cycle of crime in their lives and restore them to church, family, the workplace and society.

Who We Are

The Koinonia House National Ministries (KHNM) started in 1990 because there was a great need. People who had been transformed by Jesus Christ while in prison did not have a safe place to go. These men and women were often overlooked and shunned not only by society at large but by the local church as well. So the ministry was founded with the call to invite these men to live with a family that would disciple on how to be a Christian in the world outside prison. The ministry started as a house with room for four men. The goal was to build bridges between the church inside prison walls to the church outside prison walls, starting with four men at a time. Since that time, this ministry has grown in scope and opportunities. KHNM is involved in several different ways in restoring the former prisoner through a variety of ministries and ministry partnerships. We still have Koinonia House which serves men who have been incarcerated and welcomes them into a safe place where they can be discipled and connected to a local church. We minister inside prisons in various capacities but primarily through our Freedom God's Way weekend. We have teams that go into prisons to bring a spiritual retreat to the men and women. Our ministry teams spends a full weekend in each prison evangelizing the lost and encouraging the Christians. Our Radical Time Out ministry (affectionately known as RTO) is a dynamic weekly meeting for ex-offenders, their families, families with loved ones currently incarcerated, people who are in legal trouble (pre-prison), and friends of the ministry. We train interested local churches how to better minister to former inmates through our Meet Me At The Gate (MMATG) ministry. The goal of MMATG is to meet every Christian inmate from the moment of their release and connect them with a supportive church. KHNM also consults and partners with various ministries and churches to serve the former inmate and their family. KHNM serves as a “voice for the voiceless” Christian neighbors in and coming out of prison. It is our objective to assist the body of Christ to be that entity who fully embraces and assists Christian neighbors coming out of prison to not only regain their status as a contributing member of society, but a biblically growing disciple of Jesus Christ who contributes to the body of Christ as a whole.
