Who We Are

MHI is a project of the Center for Health and Human Development (chhd.org), started in 2002 training family caregivers to become leaders and volunteer teachers and leaders of educational classes and support groups. Eventually efforts expanded to start grassroots mental health organizations, carry out advocacy and outreach. In 2008 we started a weekly art therapy and empowerment program for users to help them pursue their goals of recovery and mental health. In 2014, additional funding from the Inter-American Foundation allowed MHI to expand its work from El Salvador to Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. Our goal to is ensure that every persons who suffers the traumatic experiences of mental illness will have access to high quality, evidence-based, dignified treatment in their own communities, as well as other resources and supports to ensure their quality of life and ongoing mental health. So much remains to be done, and we will keep working at achieve our goals! TO DONATE please go to chhd.org. Thanks!
