MILWAUKEE HOMELESS VETERANS INITIATIVE INC

Founded by veterans for veterans, we have served more than 1,500 veterans and their families in a variety of ways since 2008. Our motto and commitment: "We don't leave our wounded behind." We provide furniture and household items along with clothing and food to veterans leaving residential treatment and transitional living programs and moving into their first apartments. We are doing more than 300 move-ins a year. We do early morning outreach to find homeless vets where they sleep, and at daytime shelters, and help them qualify for benefits & health care, find housing, provide clothing, transportation and other needs. We run an emergency food pantry for veterans in short-term crises who cannot access other sources. We do wellness assessments to follow up with veterans we have moved into living quarters. Our Women Veterans Initiative (WOVIN) reaches out to the growing and underserved population of female veterans to offer support and connect them with services they need.
