Our Mission

Our team of state-licensed clinicians, masters-level therapists, skilled educators, support staff and dedicated volunteers work together to create healthier futures for our clients. To achieve the best possible health outcomes, the Center takes an integrated approach to care which includes: a continuum of behavioral health and support services including traditional therapy, peer support, advocacy, case management, education and outreach; access to quality primary care that addresses both physical and mental health conditions holistically; and a range of prevention and wellness programs that empower clients to participate in their own care. Center Wellness programs are generally open to the public and free-of-charge, and the Cultural Center space is open for not-for-profit and non-partisan purposes compatible with the Centerâ€™s mission at affordable rates.

Who We Are

The Montrose Center, established in 1978 as a safe and affirming place for lesbian and gay Houstonians to receive quality and affordable mental health services, has emerged as one of the nation's leading full-service LGBT centers. Professional counseling remains the core of our work; however, the Center has steadily expanded services to include outpatient substance abuse treatment, care coordination and housing assistance for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Our growth also encompasses HIV/STI prevention outreach, support and advocacy to LGBT survivors of violent crimes, and a broad array of programs meeting the specific needs of LGBT youth and seniors. The Center serves as the hub of Houston's LGBT community, with space for outside groups to meet and host events, lease space for smaller nonprofits compatible with our mission, a community computer facility, free wellness activities and programs, and a community cafÃ©.
