MY TIME INC

In July of 2004, Lucina Clarke, a Certified Special Educator for the past fifteen years decided to form a parent support group in the Canarsie area because there was a need thereby naming it "The Canarsie Parent Support Group for Individuals with Autism and Developmental Disabilities". The group met on a monthly basis to discuss issues, share and exchange information relating to Autism and other related developmental disabilities. They provide support and network with other families, conduct workshops on various techniques to assist parents in developing functional and social environment at home and their community. Local support agencies and guest speakers participate. Parents are empowered by knowledge to become advocates for their children. Founded in 2007, My Time Inc. provides the parents with support and a place where they can express themselves, discuss issues relating to themselves and their children and not be judged or criticized for being a parent of a special needs child. My Time Inc. provides quality, reliable and trustworthy information to the parents and caregivers of children with disabilities. These parents need support in raising their child. Everyone thinks of the children. That is important, but what about the parents? The parents need time for themselves as well. I am bless with the ability to work with parents and provide this service. My Time Inc. is a place for parents to go to and call their own. This is My Time Inc.'s destiny. Our goal is to empower and teach the parents skills to cope with these crises. Parents need support and guidance especially when one hears for the first time of their child's diagnosis or disability. The parents need to know that they can find support by networking and sharing experiences with each other. This is a lifelong disorder and parents need strategies to cope with their daily life. We envision My Time Inc. as a model for providing a supportive environment for parents, grandparents, and advocates caring for an individual with developmental disabilities or special needs. We are a progressive group of individuals at My Time Inc., who have dedicated our energy and every resource to create a safe space for the parents, grandparents, and advocates caring for an individual with special needs or developmental disabilities in an environment free of judgments and prejudice. We are developing relationships with public/private schools, churches, universities and the community to ensure that awareness and diversity of parents of individuals with special needs are respected, acknowledged and accepted.
