NORTH IDAHO AIDS COALITION (NIAC)

NIAC is celebrating our 25 years serving the community this year, We started in 1989 in the middle of the HIV epidemic by creating a small support group for people living with HIV and for their loved ones to come together for one another. At that time , there were still so many unknowns about the disease and medicine were harsh on ones body. In the 1990's federal funding was offered for agencies to help HIV positive people and their families. NIAC then grew from a one part time staff person grass roots organization to an small multi- staff multi volunteer community based organization. New medicines were introduced that were easier on ones body and extending peoples lives. NIAC provides free HIV testing and community education to all those who ask so we can help stop new HIV infections and connect HIV positive individuals to life saving medical care. NIAC's continued success today means the number of clients we serve is always increasing. This year it was brought to our attention that the neighboring 5 central Idaho counties had lost their case management services and NIAC expanded and offered our services to the individuals in those counties so they would not go without care. NIAC is funded by individuals , local business, and group donations, community fundraisers, as well as funds from regional and national resources. NIAC's services are provided free of charge to our clients and our community.
