Our Mission
PLAEP is a christian organisation that was formed in 2005 to respond to the ravaging effects of HIV/Aids in Kitwe, Zambia.
Who We Are
In spite of the government's response to the HIV scourge through provision of antiretroviral treatment to people living with HIV, increased treatment of opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis, biomedical services such as prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT), male circumcision and increased voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) services, high infection levels continue being recorded as increasing in some parts of Zambia. Kitwe district one of PLAEP's target communities, the HIV infection prevalence for the sexually active group of 15-49 years now stands at nearly 23%. According to the 2012 district Aids Task Force report on HIV, only 7% of the total population in Kitwe has accessed VCT services and only 2% of HIV positive people are on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART). This is one of the highest in the country. This scenario drives PLAEP to continue efforts on mitigating the various challenges of HIV and AIDS.
