Saint John's Program for Real Change

Sacramento, California

Our Mission

The vision of Saint John's Program for Real Change is to break the cycle of poverty and dependence one family at a time.

Who We Are

Saint John's Program for Real Change operates the largest shelter in Sacramento County, and the only one dedicated to serving women and their children- the most rapidly rising segment of the homeless population nationally, and among its most vulnerable. Founded in 1985 on the steps of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sacramento, we have expanded from an emergency shelter into a comprehensive 18-month continuum of care program. Over the last 30 years, we have empowered nearly 30,000 mothers with children to rise above the devastating, negative elements of poverty and achieve job-readiness and self-sustainability.
