Second Table Ministries works to . . . •Train and equip desperately poor black churches in South Africa to address the most urgent needs that they identify in their communities. •Encourage community leaders and volunteers, and both white and black congregations in South Africa and the USA, to work together closely as a vital step toward self-help, community involvement, and racial reconciliation. •Inform people of the needs and opportunities for service in South Africa. We: •Encourage primary control by the indigenous churches (self-help). •Engender cooperative problem-solving through joint effort with black and white churches, and community leaders. •Require a meaningful financial investment by communities that benefit. The people we work with must have an incentive to help themselves and a stake in the outcome. •Insist on a sustainable outcome that continues after our involvement in a project ends.
