Our Mission

Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) is a 501(c)(3) private, non­profit, animal welfare organization. Each year, almost 800 dogs and cats in need find loving hands, warm beds and nourishing meals at the shelter. TCRAS, a limited-intake facility, gives every animal that enters its doors, the time, medical treatment and love it needs to be ready for their next happy phase. Since 2008, 3,511 dogs and 1,653 cats were either returned to their original owners or placed in new homes through the efforts of TCRAS.

Who We Are

TCRAS works hard to fulfill it's mission of “Forever improving the lives of animals in our community” by helping all companion animals who come to the shelter, and we do a great job in giving one-on-one care to our furry guests. The value TCRAS offers to the community it serves is not only recognized in reunion, owner retention and adoption efforts, the organization also meets the community's essential needs by controlling the pet population. All animals adopted from TCRAS are spayed or neutered and brought current on vaccinations and microchipped before they leave. TCRAS also provides a TNR (Trap, Neuter and Return) Program which helps community members neuter, vaccinate, and control disease in their feral cat colonies, which is provided at a low to no cost for each animal. We have a CEO and Chief Medical Officer who perform “rounds” at the shelter and a dedicated group of veterinarians in our community who perform highly-discounted services to include advanced medical care when required.
