Write-Way Prison Ministries, Inc

Write-Way Prison Ministries exists to provide free Bible study courses to Texas and Louisiana inmates postpaid. This Texas non-profit corporation is part of the International Emmaus Correspondence School of Dubuque, IA (see www.ecsministries.org). The school has existed since 1942 and provides Bible correspondence studies internationally in 85 languages, primarily to missionaries and their field churches. They also provide the studies to the USA domestic population and churches for a fee. Those fees help subsidize the free courses to prisoners. ECS currently oversees 34 state coordinators in the prison program who provide a study curriculum for the prisoners in their particular states. Each state uses the ECS courses and may use additional materials such as the Navigator discipleship courses. Each state coordinator designs their own curriculum and raises funds to support the outreach. All staff and graders/counselors are volunteers. Prospective students may obtain an enrollment form from their chaplain, a fellow inmate, or by written request to the coordinator's office. The first book, Born To Win, must be completed and the exam returned before the next course is shipped. In Texas and Louisiana, prison units are assigned to a Branch. A Branch consists of volunteers from a local church who grade and counsel on the exams. Generally, that Branch will return the graded exam to the student, and then forward the grade to the main office for posting to the student's record. The main office then ships a new course to that student.
