Leukemia

Leukemia is a cancer affecting an individual’s bone marrow, blood cells or lymphatic system. Leukemia has a 64 percent survival rate, and 1,345,123 people are expected to be living with or in remission from leukemia in the United States.¹ There were 437,033 new leukemia diagnoses worldwide in 2018.² It is the 13th most common cancer in the world out of 34 cancers identified by the World Cancer Research Fund. It accounts for 2.6 percent of all cancer diagnoses³ compared to 10 percent of all cancer diagnoses in the U.S.⁴ There are a number of forms of leukemia, including acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Other less common forms of leukemia are hairy cell leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative disorders.⁵
