LA LUZ DE CRISTO MINISTRIES, INC

La Luz de Cristo translates as " The Light of Christ" is a non-profit organization that was established in June of 2007. Our purpose is to share God's amazing LOVE in ACTION to the people of Empalme de Boaco and surrounding communities in Nicaragua. This is done through a variety of programs that focus on health maintenance, community development, leadership training, women skills training, and children's programs. The need in this area is great. Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere. Empalme de Boaco is a rural community in central Nicaragua where most people live under extreme poverty with less than $1.49 per day. The region is home to approximately 15,000 children under the age of 15 years. Most of them live with their single mother, who often is the sole provider. La Luz de Cristo has been providing free medical care through our community clinic. Our patients receive all their medications free of charge. Our organization also provides skills training to women to improve their lives and that of their children. Empowering women is an important part of our economic program. Through our children programs, children are learning societal values and leadership skills to be successful citizens in their community. Our "Future Promises" soccer academy provides a safe and fun environment for the youth to stay out of the streets and drugs and learn how to achieve their future dreams. Our hope is to transform this community one family at a time.
