Help International

Help International

The mission of HELP International is to empower people to fight global poverty through sustainable, life-changing development programs. Our model facilitates sustainable development programs overseas that impact the lives of both community members with whom we work and HELP volunteers and interns. We strive to ensure that our programs allow the people we work with to become self-sufficient rather than dependent on others to meet their daily needs. HELP International's goal is to provide a contextualized high-impact and sustainable development program, yet able to be carried out in a relatively short period of time. With our diverse teams formed from people of all backgrounds we are able implement a very holistic approach to development using rapid evaluation to ensure community needs are being met. Every project HELP executes is done in collaboration with a local partnership in-country. HELP partnerships include international and domestic NGOs, local governments, schools, hospitals, health clinics, community leaders, and other social entrepreneurs. Our mulit-facited approach to development allows us to facilitate projects catering to a wider range of fields and disciplines . In any given country, HELP International develops , executes, and monitors grass-root projects in areas related to public health promotion, health campaigns and outreaches, medical support, micro-business mentoring, income generating activities, English teaching, teacher trainings, orphanage support, at-risk youth programs, female empowerment, agriculture, etc. Our unique model allows college-aged volunteers, interns, and working young professionals to contribute and catalyze the efforts of local partners on the ground. HELP International aims to assist relatively inexperienced and mostly academically trained participants to become social entrepreneurs who understand the complexities of poverty. Our social entrepreneurs have gone on to be a force of change in everything from the non-profit sector, to public office, the armed forces and even the corporate world.

SAN FRANCISCO SUICIDE PREVENTION INC

SAN FRANCISCO SUICIDE PREVENTION INC

San Francisco Suicide Prevention is the oldest community-based telephone crisis center in the United States. Founded in 1962 by a journalist from the British Broadcasting Corporation, the organization adopted a crisis management model developed by the Samaritans Centers in Great Britain and Europe. To this day the agency trains local volunteers who provide suicide prevention and crisis intervention services to callers. Over 500 other crisis centers across the United States now utilize the same concept. After the collapse of the State mental health system in California, San Francisco Suicide Prevention stepped forward to fill the demand created by insufficient community service funding. Over time, the agency’s workload grew to its current total number of volunteers trained since the agency began now tops 3,500, and the total number of calls answered exceeds 1,000,000. With a talented staff of 12 FTE, 150 volunteers, and an annual budget just over $1,000,000, San Francisco Suicide Prevention is one of the most cost-effective crisis care agencies in the country.
