The primary mission of Qi Yuan Day is to help all people acquire a clearer and more certain understanding that human life does not begin on the day of one's birth, but long before. Observance of Qi Yuan Day will especially create a greater understanding for children to know when life begins. Qi Yuan Day is a celebration that can hopefully reduce any confusion about the beginning of life and eliminate misconceptions stating that a fetus in the womb is disposable and not equal to other human life. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati serves children in Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Southeastern Indiana. The agency pairs adult volunteer mentors with children who can benefit from having a positive role model. Volunteers are asked to commit to a one-year friendship with the child, with most pairings lasting much longer. 99% of the children in our program are in school, not involved with the juvenile justice system and not pregnant or parenting.
